Capturing Couture was founded by two women who launched a successful business because they "never ever gave up". NEGU® was the motto of Jessie Rees, a beautiful, athletic, smart and compassionate 12-year-old girl who fought two brain tumors (DIPG) for ten months and two days. During her courageous fight, Jessie focused on spreading hope, joy and love to other kids battling cancer. She knew having cancer made you feel lonely and limited so she wanted to spread love to other kids with cancer by way of her JoyJars™. Each day, 46 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer and it remains the number one disease killer of children. Let's help these kids win the fight and Never Ever Give Up! One in four women in the United States are victims of domestic violence at some point in their lives. On average, three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends every day. We think this is three too many. The inception of Laura’s House was inspired by a woman from Orange County called Laura who was a victim of domestic violence. Unfortunately the end of her particular story is a very tragic one… her life was cut short with her untimely death at age 38. Over the past eighteen years, Laura’s House has provided shelter and support services to more than 3,488 battered women and children. It has offered counseling, life skills education and legal assistance to over 40,305 persons. Today, Laura's House continues to be the only state-approved comprehensive domestic violence agency in South Orange County. To learn more, please visit: http://www.laurashouse.org/
Capturing Couture's co-founder Lisa had an infant daughter who spent countless weeks at CHOC Hospital. She received the highest care and compassion during an unbelievably difficult time in her family's life. Lisa and her family will be forever grateful to the staff at CHOC for their tireless efforts and dedication. Children's Hospital of Orange County has made a commitment to both basic science and clinical research in an ongoing effort to unravel the diseases that affect children. This commitment keeps CHOC at the leading edge of technology, which means children seen at CHOC benefit from the latest in scientific thinking with access to the most up-to-date treatment options. Research laboratories at CHOC support a variety of basic science, translational, and clinical research studies. Please visit: http://www.choc.org/about to learn more about CHOC's ongoing efforts.
Our Harmony straps rock and kids should too! Every child deserves a music education. Playing music is more than just fun for kids - it is transformational and vital. Yet budget cuts have forced many school music programs to close, especially in schools serving low-income communities. Little Kids Rock is a national nonprofit that changes children's lives by restoring and revitalizing music education in disadvantaged public schools. They partner with school districts, train school teachers, and donate all of the instruments and resources necessary. To learn more about Little Kids Rock, please visit: http://www.littlekidsrock.org
Capturing Couture loves animals. Sofie, our resident Yorkie-Coton puts a smile on everyone's face daily. ASPCA was the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere, founded in 1866 with a mission "to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.” The ASPCA is now one of the largest humane societies in the world to rescue animals from abuse, pass humane laws and share resources with shelters nationwide. The Cerebral Palsy International Research Foundation (CPIRF) is dedicated to funding research and educational activities directly relevant to discovering the cause, cure and evidence-based care for those with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy affects muscle control and coordination, so even simple movements - like standing still - are difficult. Capturing Couture's co-founder Erika is inspired by her uncle Albert who was born with cerebral palsy and told he wouldn't live past the age of 9. He is now 41 years old and the author of a book soon to be published and sold on Amazon.com. Albert's success and positive outlook while living with cerebral palsy is to be admired and celebrated. This research is high-risk but has the potential to significantly affect patient care and save lives. SU2C’s unique funding model is action-oriented and encourages innovation through new types of scientific grants. These are awarded to scientists who work collaboratively, and isn't working together to make the world a better place what it's all about? Save the whales by supporting Operation Ferocious Isles. As many as 1,000 endangered long-finned pilot whales are brutally killed in the Faeroe Islands each year. The killing occurs mainly during the summer months during communal hunts that locals refer to as "grindadráp". Sea Shepherd intends to intervene in the grind, when at all possible, to prevent the unnecessary loss of precious marine wildlife. Capturing Couture is mindful of conservation and animal rights all over the world. To learn more, visit: http://www.seashepard.org/ferocious-isles
